Detailed description of Blue Rock Springs Golf Course, East Course

Blue Rock Springs Golf Course is a Public, 36 hole golf facility located in Vallejo, California.

There are two 18 hole course at the Blue Rock Springs golf facility. They are The West Course and The East Course

The newer of the two courses at Blue Rock Springs is the East Course. It first opened for play in 1994. The East Course was designed by Robert Muir Graves.

Characteristic to both courses are sloping tree-lined fairways. Both courses were built on hilly terrain. The East Course has fewer trees than West Course. The trees on the West Course are also more mature resulting in the West Course being more of a target golf layout. However, locals consider the East Course to be the more difficult of the two courses.

Par for the course is 70. From the back tees, the course plays to 6,133 yards. From the forward tees, the course measures 4,869 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 14, a par-5 that plays to 551 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 8, a par-3 that plays to 141 yards from the back tees.

Watch out for # 5, a 488 yard par-5 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole is # 10, a 346 yard par-4.

First, I'm an annual member here so there could be a slight bias in my review, but I enjoy Blue Rock Springs both East and West courses. The views on the East course are great as you move to the higher elevation of the course. Right now the fairways are a little wet in spots and a little bare in others where they are working on repairing some issues due to water run off. The greens are in good shape and challenging, but a little soft for summer-time weather. The course layout is about 2/3rds solid and then there is that 1/3rd where it is just an up and back set of par 4's that are less than inspiring but where the wind and elevation provides the challenge. The staff are always friendly and the food at the cafe' is much better than the food at the other public courses in the area. Blue Rock Springs will test your game no matter what level player you are. As far as a vacation worthy spot, I would say if you're in town to visit family, or being entertained at Six Flags and are looking for a round of golf then Blue Rock Springs is worthy.

Kind of a neighborhood/local atmosphere, i.e. facilities are a little run down, but the people working there are friendly and they serve a good home cooked type breakfast. The course is usually in decent condition as munis go, and good green fees are available from golfnow. Yes, the daisys do need cutting, but only occassionally. The best thing is the greens are consistently in good condition. Have enjoyed playing there for many years. A good track for the money-challenging enough, pricing, condition, friendly.

Would travel: 30-60 Miles, Not Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again, Average course for the area, Bargain priced based on quality and competitive area pricing

I enjoy playing this course. The greens are well maintained and generally have just the right amount of speed. The fairways could use a little work but only b/c of the white flowering that occurs which make it difficult to find a ball even in the middle of the fairway. It's a challenge w/all of the elevation changes, exposure to the wind, and tee box set-ups which require a good shot or trouble will get you.
